Team Bahamas picked up its first win of the u-17 boys Centrobasket Championships in grand fashion yesterday, dominating El Salvador in a an 86-57 rout.

The Bahamas rebounded well after losing a close game to Puerto Rico on Wednesday. Malik Josey had 20 points in the win to lead The Bahamas. Romad Dean chipped in with 13 points and Deyton Albury added 12.

“The game against Puerto Rico was a tough loss for us, because we stayed together and played as a team but still didn’t pull it off,” Josey said. “We played a physical game tonight. I knew I had to get back to playing team ball after game one, and my teammates really locked in helped me out all game. We now have to keep the momentum going and trust in playing as a team.”

With a record of 1-1, The Bahamas takes on the U.S Virgin Islands today with a chance to qualify for the medal rounds of the tournament.

“I like that we have a lot of people getting involved in these wins,” said Bahamas head coach Quentin Hall. “We have six or seven guys that can get into double figures each game, which makes us really hard to prepare for. We have the USVI coming up today, and we’re looking to keep the momentum rolling.”
