Arison family, Carnival corp. pledge combined $2million to Hurricane Dorian relief

Miami Heat managing general partner Micky Arison and his wife Madeleine are chipping in to help The Bahamas rebuild following Hurricane Dorian, which severely impacted Abaco and Grand Bahama.

The Arison’s offer matches a $1 million donation from the Carnival Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the of the company.

Arison, who serves as the chairman of Carnival Corp., is known for his philanthropic relief efforts with respect to major storms, including those that have affected South Florida.

Hurricane Dorian made landfall in The Bahamas on Sunday night and continued through Monday with sustained winds of 140mph.

According to minister of Health Duane Sands, at least 26 people in The Bahamas were killed as a result of the hurricane.

A portion of the combined pledge will immediately go to support efforts being managed by Direct Relief, an international humanitarian organization that provides critical medications and supplies during emergency situations. Direct Relief is currently assembling and delivering requested medical aid and additional emergency medical caches with first-aid supplies to the affected areas in The Bahamas.
