American man drowns in Bimini

Several drownings in Bimini over last few years

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — An American man reportedly drowned in waters off Honey Moon Harbour in Cat Cay, Bimini yesterday, according to authorities.

The visitor arrived at the harbor on board a 2010, 80-foot Pershing yacht that was docked.

Police said the man, whose identity was not released, was swimming when he “began experiencing difficulties”.

The American, who was unresponsive, was recovered from the water and transported to the Cay Cay Clinic.

He was pronounced dead in hospital.

Authorities said they were investigating the incident.

There have been several drownings near Cat Cay in recent years.

In June 2018, a 54-year-old American man, who was swimming with relatives on Luna Beach, in northern Bimini, was seen floating in the water unconscious.

Last January, William “Stinky” Stuart, 64, went fishing and did not return.

Authorities found his body in waters in the areas of Bimini Harbour the following day.

In May 2016, an American man, 32, drowned in waters around 10 miles off Cat Cay.

He was a crew-member on board a 25-foot fishing vessel and reportedly died while diving.

Calls placed to the officer in charge of the Alice Town Police Station and the island administrator’s office were not returned up to press time.
