The 2018/2019 Budget debate moved to the Senate Wednesday and Attorney General Carl Bethel used the platform to defend Tuesday’s firings of Frederick Mcalpine, Vaughn Miller and Travis Robinson, from their senior government posts.

Bethel told the Upper Chamber that while he sympathised with the men, rules are rules.

The Attorney General also defended the government’s increase in value-added tax (VAT) and said, while the move may hurt taxpayers pockets now, in the long run, it will secure a better future for Bahamians.

He also admitted, however, that the Free National Movement (FNM) has lost some political ground.
