83-year-old man becomes latest victim of COVID-19, 24 more cases confirmed

NASSAU, BAHAMA — The Ministry of Health has confirmed the death of an 83-year-old man of New Providence due to COVID-19.

The man died on September 11.

The ministry confirmed another death was recorded yesterday and is being investigated.

The virus has now claimed the lives of 69 people, and another 11 deaths are still under investigation.

Additionally, a third death was recorded as non-COVID-related today, meaning the patient died of another illness.

Health officials confirmed 24 new cases of the virus today.

Of the new infections, there were 20 in New Providence, one in Grand Bahama, one in Long Island and two with locations pending.

Total cases now stand at 3,032.

There were 1,482 recovered cases, up from the 1,391 recovered cases reported Monday.

Active cases have dropped to 1,461 as a result, down from the 1,531 reported Monday.

The number of hospitalized cases remains unchanged at 66, according to the Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, testing numbers increased marginally from 15,418 to 15,510 — a difference of 92.
