Residents in the Track Road community in Englerston are today still trying to come to grips with the shooting death of Cameron Cooper, 7, who was caught in the crossfire of a drug deal that went sour Tuesday morning.

The shooting incident unfolded shortly after 7: 00 a.m., according to police.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Clayton Fernander reported that an altercation between two males, over a drug transaction, is what led to the shooting incident.

Two men got into a verbal argument, police said. One of the men reportedly left the scene and returned with a handgun.

The man who returned, opened fire on the other male, according to reports.

Cooper, who was on his way to school Tuesday morning, was caught in the crossfire.

The adult that was shot during that incident is said to still be hospitalized.

Police identified the house where the drama unfolded as a well-known drug-house in the area.

Authorities also confirmed that the culprit behind the brazen daylight killing is known to police.

In the wake of Tuesday morning’s tragedy, police launched an island-wide manhunt for the man they believe to have been responsible for the shooting incident; Johnny St. Luc, 32.

Less than 24 hours later, authorities confirmed that St. Luc was captured and taken into police custody for questioning.

The victim in Tuesday’s shooting incident was a student at Columbus Primary School, and his death left school administrators and students struck with fear and disbelief.

The student body spent the majority of the school day in grief counseling, according to school administration.

Cooper’s death pushed the country’s murder count to 39 for the year.

If it is a “well-known drug-house” in the area, why wasn’t it shut down before this horrendous tragedy? These places should be demolished!
May this child’s soul, rest in peace.
