Two women were hauled before the magistrate court on two drug charges Friday morning.
Margaret Smith, 60, of Windsor Place, Soldier Road, clad in a black and white dress and black cardigan, and Chavon Johnson, 43, of Hutchinson Street, Bain Town, were arraigned before Deputy Chief Magistrate Subusola Swain in.
The duo is accused of conspiring to possess and possession of dangerous drugs on September 6.
It is alleged that the women attempted to sneak drugs – namely Indian hemp – into the Bahamas Department of Corrections (BDOC).
The women were not required to enter a plea.
Bail was not granted and the women have been remanded to the Bahamas Department of Corrections until October 29.
Smith – a senior citizen – wept as she stood before swain Friday morning.
After the charges were read, and as the duo exited the court, Smith repeatedly tried to state her case.
According to the elderly woman – she says she’s been framed.
Police say the women conspired together to smuggle drugs into the prison.
The drugs were allegedly hidden in a food container underneath a bed of Chinese food.
Smith alleges that Johnson set her up and she’s not willing to take the fall silently.
The duo – Johnson represented by Attorney Alex Dorsett and Smith represented by Attorney Ian Cargill – will have their day in court to argue their case October 29.
