15-year-old charged with sex crimes

A 15-year-old boy was arraigned in the Magistrate’s court on Tuesday in connection with the three recent sexual assaults on three young girls.

The teen was rushed into court by police, after several angry bystanders screamed at the young man from the sidelines.

He was charged with three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse.

Prosecutors allege that on April 28, May 14 and May 25th, the teen had unlawful sexual intercourse with three minors ages six, 10 and 11.

According to police, the first incident happened on Bahama Avenue off Baillou Hill Road, while the second on Darling Street off Wulff Road near Stephen Dillet Primary School, and promoted residents in the area to clear down the property surrounding the abandoned building where the girl was allegedly assaulted.

The final incident, police said, occurred last Thursday as the young girl was walking with her brother through a park in Big Pond.

Members of the media were not allowed inside the court as the teen was charged as a minor. The press is only granted access if a minor is charged as an adult in another courtroom, or is charged with adults in connection with a crime.

Eyewitness News understands however, that the teen was accompanied by his grandmother and mother. He was represented by attorney Nathan Smith.

The juvenile was not required to enter a plea to the charges and was remanded to the Simpson Penn School for boys until August 10. The case is expected to be fast tracked to the Supreme Court for trial.
