100 Haitian migrants apprehended in Exumas

RBDF apprehended over 400 Haitian migrants this year

NASSAU, BAHAMAS — Authorities apprehended 100 Haitian migrants in the Exuma chain yesterday, according to the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.

The migrants were en route to New Providence, according to authorities.

They were intercepted around 2 p.m. by a RBDF patrol craft, approximately 15 nautical miles west of Highbourne’s Cay in the Exumas.

The migrants were transported to New Providence and are expected to be handed over to immigration authorities.

The RBDF said it continues to protect and safeguard the territorial waters of The Bahamas.

The organization said it has apprehended or assisted in the apprehension of over 400 Haitian migrants for the year.
