NASSAU, BAHAMAS — The country’s largest wholesale food distributor continues to face supply chain and logistics challenges brought on by the global COVID-19 pandemic, a senior executive said yesterday, adding: “I have never in all my years seen prices this high.”
Tiffani Evans, director of merchandising, Sysco Bahamas Food Services, while addressing a webinar on the COVID-19 supply chain crisis hosted by the Counsellors Group Ltd, said: “There are still a lot of challenges — the freight, inflation, shipping constraints, trucking, the capacity restraints, labour shortages and raw material shortages.”

Evans said the company has been working tirelessly to secure goods for Bahamian consumers from markets other than the United States.
“We have purchased from Europe, Brazil, Thailand and China, but it’s taking a lot longer to get here because of the lack of containers,” she said.
“We have had to become flexible with the brands we bring.
“I have never in all my years in this industry seen prices this high and a lot of it is due to inflation.”
She added: “There are a lot of challenges. I’m hoping it’s going to be over in the next six months but it’s difficult to say when it’s going to get better.
“Our biggest priority is ensuring that we service our customs as best as we can.”
